I certainly have a soft spot for locales with a rich past, so it is no surprise that I simply love talking about unique wedding and event venues with historical ties for today’s bride. We chatted with Debbie Wilbourn, Events Director of Capitol Theatre in Maryville, TN, a few weeks ago to find out just what the Capitol Theatre offers for soon-to-be-wed couples. We certainly could not wait to tell you all about it!

Read on for five reasons why having your wedding at a historical theatre can really wow your guests – with very little effort on your part!

1. Aha! factor.
Historical theatres truly have an aha! factor for you and your guests. From a prestigious stage framed by luxurious curtains to ample seating and modern upgrades that make your event surreal and dreamlike, this type of venue has a little bit of everything.

2. Theatres are the perfect stage for any theme.
Looking to incorporate an Old Hollywood theme into your big day? Your search is over! These venues embody the nature of the age. After all, most operated during that time! Thanks to the beautiful amenities available throughout, you will need very few decorations as an added benefit.

3. Amenities set to entertain!
Historical theatres operated to do one thing: entertain. Naturally, you can assume that the amenities at these locales are sure to help your guests stay in the mood to have a great time throughout the evening!

4. Unique, unique, unique.
As Debbie explains, not every couple opts for a theatre wedding, but when one does, guests talk about it for years to come. If you are looking for a wedding style that is different from the rest, opt for a flair of the dramatic with a theatre wedding.

5. Photo-friendly atmosphere.
Strike a pose! A historical theatre like the Capitol has been the site of many photos for many decades, and everything from lighting to amazing backdrops will allow your wedding photography to be simply amazing.

Originally built in 1922, the building now known as the Capitol Theatre opened to the public in 1934. The Capitol underwent a few modern updates over the years, now boasting state-of-the-art equipment, amenities, and services provided by staff members with over 20 years of experience which can accommodate as many as 350 guests.

Each wedding package includes a coordinator and DJ, and the Capitol offers a performance stage and dance floor, movie screen, lighting, and sound on site as well as a coffee shop and art gallery, full catering services, and an optional VIP private theater room. In addition, you and your future spouse can have your name in lights on the glamorous movie marquee and a truly grand grand entrance! Once the curtain opens and the chandelier is twinkling to signal your arrival, Debbie describes that your Master of Ceremonies can present the bride and groom on the stage with smoke in lights, customized music, and other options to personalize your event!

Guests get “star treatment” as well with an actual red carpet arrival. With plenty of handicap accessibility and free public parking, this venue has every comfort for guests of all ages. Everything is set up for you at the Capitol Theatre, too, including chairs and tables. You will not even need to rent tablecloths – the Capitol’s amazing lighting effects shine down to create a look of water dancing on the bare tables!
